Our Beginnings
RockDove originated in 2002 for five birdwatchers connected with the Los Angeles Audubon Society. Initially, we were a seaside workshop in Santa Monica, California, specializing in resoling hiking boots. For fifteen years, we provided support for adventurers navigating the rugged landscapes of southern California. As their go-to shoe cobbler, we noticed a growing demand for something which was patently absent in their lives at home—quality indoor footwear to pamper their weary, high-mileage feet. In response, we handmade five pairs of slippers that Christmas, using a low-cut boot last.

The Experiment
In a region renowned for sunny beaches and flip-flops, there was little focus on slippers. However, our expertise in crafting comfortable, durable footwear was an asset. We drew from mattress memory foam, gel insoles, and anti-shock cushioning found in hiking boots to produce slippers designed specifically for tired feet. Within two months of introducing our experiment, a newsletter generated 350 orders from eager customers. We chose to name our slippers after the ubiquitous rock dove, or pigeon, often seen at the Santa Monica Pier—a symbol of our roots and values.

Everyday Adventure
Our commitment to producing footwear designed for the most exhausted adventurers remains strong. Adventure comes in many forms, not just from exhilarating climbs; everyone experiences their own version daily. Our slippers cater to anyone on their feet for extended periods—be it teachers, chefs, nurses, cashiers, traffic officers, postal workers, and beyond—allowing them to come home and relax in supreme comfort.

Pursuit of Comfort
Our dedication to achieving the perfect level of comfort propelled us to adopt high-density memory foam early on. In 2004, we teamed up with sleep experts from the Long Beach Mattress Company to source premium memory foam toppers to craft our insoles. However, we learned that mattress comfort doesn't directly translate to slippers. Through meticulous adjustments in density and firmness ratings, we aimed to create a “sweet spot” that offers exceptional comfort without feeling cumbersome. Each RockDove slipper now features a multilayered foam construction that includes memory foam calibrated for pressure points, a supportive foam providing firmness, and an anti-shock EVA layer, ensuring an unparalleled wearing experience.
